Brewing Kit

Home Brewing Kit

A home brewing kit will cost you between €200 and €400. Here is a selection of the best value for money, allowing you to brew 20L of beer in 8 hours.

Warning: Be wary of ready-made kits or second-hand equipment. The former are usually expensive and include unnecessary parts. The latter are worn out and risk contaminating your beer.

A complete and ready-to-use home brewing kit.

1. Electric brewing kettle, stainless steel, 27L

Price: €200

A 25L stainless steel pot with a good gas stove at home will do the job perfectly. Saving €200 is always appreciated!

2. Brewing thermometer (-10 / +110 °C)

Price: €15

3. Cast iron grain mill

Price: €60

Do not buy the €40 mill offered by some sites, it will only cause you problems.

4. 30L filtration kettle with stainless steel filter bottom

Price: €60

Do not take the filtration bag from the site. It does not allow proper separation of lipids from your wort. Lipids will alter the taste of your beer.

5. Graduated 30L fermentation/brewing bucket (x2)

Price: €13 each

6. Stainless steel wort chiller

Price: €50

An important piece if you want to cool your wort quickly and avoid contamination. Do not take the plate chiller, it clogs quickly (risk of contamination).

7. 26 mm crown bottle capper

Price: €8.5

It is only used for bottling 33 or 25 cl bottles. For 75 cl bottles, you need to upgrade.

Total

€406.5 (or €206.5 if you already have a 25L stainless steel pot).

Additional Equipment

You will also need: a scale, a long spoon, a water kettle, gloves, a 1L measuring container, classic containers (for storing crushed malt...) and empty bottles.

Raw Materials

Hops, malt, yeast (e.g., T58), powdered sugar... Count on about €20 for 20 liters of finished product.

Consumables

  • Hop bags (2 per brew)
  • 26 mm oxygen-absorbing crown caps (100 pcs, +/- 60 per brew)
  • Caustic soda crystals 1 kg for cleaning equipment (+/- 0.5 kg per brew)
No need for oxygen... Unnecessary if you have new equipment and clean it properly with soda.
